Why in news?
Land Stack is an integrated GIS-based digital platform launched by Ministry of State for Rural Development and Communications, to consolidate fragmented land records into a single accessible system. It aims to modernize land governance under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP).​
Key Features
- The platform provides single-window access to property details, ownership, deeds, encumbrances, litigation status, and rural records like Hadbast and Khewat numbers.
- It integrates urban and rural data on a GIS map, reducing the need for physical visits to offices.​
Benefits
- Land Stack enhances transparency, citizen convenience, and trust by enabling informed decisions and minimizing risks in property purchases.
- It improves inter-departmental coordination, supports data-driven governance, and draws from models in Singapore, the UK, and Finland.​
Future Plans
- The Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu portals serve as scalable models for nationwide rollout, with integration into national digital platforms planned.
- This initiative aligns historical land systems with modern e-governance needs.​
