  • Birth & Early Life
    • Born 26 December 1899 in Sunam, Punjab, as Sher Singh.
    • Lost his parents at a young age and grew up in an orphanage.
    • Deeply impacted by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre (1919), where hundreds of innocent Indians were killed under British orders.
  • Revolutionary Path
    • Joined the Ghadar Party and later associated with the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).
    • Traveled widely—Africa, the US, and Europe—building networks with revolutionaries and keeping the spirit of resistance alive.
  • The Assassination of Michael O’Dwyer
    • On 13 March 1940, Udham Singh shot Michael O’Dwyer (the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab who endorsed General Dyer’s actions at Jallianwala Bagh) during a meeting in London.
    • He saw this act as justice for the massacre victims, fulfilling a vow he had carried for over two decades.
  • Trial & Execution
    • Convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
    • Executed by hanging on 31 July 1940 at Pentonville Prison, London.
    • Before his death, he adopted the name Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, symbolizing unity across religions in India’s freedom struggle.
