National Mission for Mentoring (NMM)
Why in news?
The University Grants Commission (UGC) recently urged all higher educational institutions (HEIs) in India to nominate senior teaching faculty as mentors under the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), marking a push toward nationwide implementation.
Key Reasons for Launch of NMM
- The National Mission for Mentoring (NMM) addresses the need for continuous professional development among school teachers, whose requirements vary by geography, roles, challenges, and interests, requiring tailored support beyond initial B.Ed training.
- It responds to diverse classroom environments influenced by resources, community, and politics, enabling personalized guidance to improve teaching effectiveness.ββ
Alignment with NEP 2020
- NMM fulfills NEP 2020's vision (Para 15.11) of creating a national knowledge system with outstanding professionals providing short- and long-term mentorship to enhance education outcomes and holistic teacher growth.
- This leverages technology for seamless mentor-mentee connections, transcending geographical barriers and fostering collaborative learning.
Objectives
- NMM aims to build a large pool of outstanding professionals offering short- and long-term support to enhance teachers' skills, teaching practices, and student outcomes.
