About Special Leave Petition (SLP)
- Definition: Special Leave Petition (SLP) under Article 136 allows the Supreme Court to grant special leave to appeal against any judgment, decree, or order from any Indian court or tribunal, except military ones.β
- Purpose: Acts as a residuary power for cases involving substantial questions of law or gross injustice, bypassing regular appeal routes.β Purely administrative orders are excluded, and the petition must typically follow exhaustion of other remedies.
- Who can file: Any aggrieved party, after exhausting other remedies, in civil, criminal, tax, or tribunal matters.β
- Discretionary power of the Supreme Court, not a right.β

Time Limits
- SLPs must be filed within 90 days of a High Court judgment or 60 days if against refusal of a certificate for appeal. The Supreme Court may condone delays at its discretion.β
