OSAT project – Assam
The OSAT project in Assam is a major semiconductor assembly and test facility being established by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (TSAT), a part of Tata Electronics, in the Jagiroad area of the Morigaon district. 

Key details about the project:
  • Investment: The project involves a significant investment of β‚Ή27,000 crore (approximately USD 3 billion).
  • Capacity: The facility is expected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips per day upon becoming fully operational.
  • Technology: It will utilize advanced packaging technologies, including flip chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP/ISP).
  • Timeline: Construction began in mid-2024, with the facility projected to be operational by mid-2025 or 2026.
  • Employment: The project is expected to generate significant employment, including around 15,000 direct and 11,000-13,000 indirect job opportunities.
  • Significance: It is a key part of the Indian government's India Semiconductor Mission aimed at achieving self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing and positioning Assam as a high-tech industrial hub.
  • Location: The facility is located on a 171-acre campus near Guwahati. 
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently visited the site to review the progress of the facility, highlighting its importance for the region's industrial development and India's technological future.
