20th CII Global Sustainability Summit

The 20th edition of the CII Global Sustainability Summit took place on September 2-3, 2025, in New Delhi.
 
This summit, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development,
Focused on advancing sustainable development and climate action through industry-led initiatives and policy discussions.
 
Key highlights:
The main themes at CII's 20th Global Sustainability Summit were centered around the pillars of Resilience, Regeneration, and Responsibility. These themes emphasized:
  • Resilience: Empowering economic, ecological, and social systems to adapt and thrive amid climate shocks, market volatility, and resource constraints.
  • Regeneration: Promoting nature-positive actions, expanding forest cover, enhancing carbon sinks, and advancing circular economy practices.
  • Responsibility: Encouraging corporate accountability through environmental, social, and governance (ESG) norms, sustainable behavior changes, and industry leadership in sustainability.
Other key thematic focuses included:
  • India's sustainable development as a lifestyle choice balancing economic growth and ecological stewardship.
  • Climate action and adaptation, including the upcoming National Adaptation Plan to reduce climate vulnerabilities.
  • Accelerated renewable energy goals aiming for 500 GW by 2030 with Make in India manufacturing and low-cost clean energy.
  • Circular economy models, waste management innovations, and expanding green technologies.
  • Inclusive growth that integrates sustainability principles into trade, investment, and industry competitiveness.
  • Calls for collective global action on climate, water management, and sustainability governance.
  • The summit reiterated India’s leadership role in climate action and sustainable development as a model for emerging economies and the Global South.
The summit gathered representatives from over 10 countries and numerous industry stalwarts, reinforcing India's leadership role in global sustainability efforts. It also highlighted India's commitment to ambitious renewable energy goals and a circular economy to drive sustainable economic growth.
