Pratibimb' And 'Samanvaya
The Union Home Ministry's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has launched the 'Pratibimb' module, which tracks the locations of criminals.
Supported by the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory in New Delhi, providing forensic assistance in cybercrime cases.
This initiative has resulted in the arrest of 6,046 accused, 17,185 linkages, and 36,296 cyber investigation assistance requests, as reported to the Lok Sabha.
Samanvaya is a coordination platform for law enforcement agencies has been introduced for cybercrime data sharing and analytics. It provides analytics based on inter-state linkages of crimes & criminals across various states/UTs.
Key Features:
- Real-time geospatial mapping of mobile numbers used in cybercrimes across India.
- Provides LEAs with a visual map interface to pinpoint locations of cybercriminals and their networks.
- Facilitates identification of cybercrime hotspots and interstate crime linkages, improving coordination across states and UTs.
- Offers techno-legal assistance from I4C experts to aid investigations.
- Integrates with the Samanvaya platform, which supports data sharing and analytics among law enforcement agencies nationwide for better coordination
In essence, Pratibimb is a powerful GIS-enabled cybercrime tracking tool that bolsters India's cybercrime investigation capabilities through advanced location mapping, inter-agency coordination, and data-driven enforcement.
Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) is a national nodal agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, established to provide a coordinated framework and ecosystem to combat cybercrime and strengthen cyber security across the country.
Purpose and Objectives:
- Nodal point at the national level for fighting cybercrime, including crimes against women and children.
- Facilitate easy filing of cybercrime complaints, help identify cybercrime trends and patterns for proactive prevention.
- Act as an early warning system for law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
- Build capacity by training police officers, public prosecutors, and judicial officers in cyber forensic investigation, cyber hygiene, and cyber criminology.
- Collaborate with academia, industry, government, and the public in cybercrime prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution.
- Provide R&D support in developing advanced forensic tools and technologies in cybercrime management.
- Coordinate implementation of Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLAT) relating to cybercrime with other countries.
Establishment and History:
- Approved by the MHA in October 2018 and inaugurated in January 2020.
- Has played a role in policy decisions such as recommending the ban on 59 Chinese apps in June 2020.
- Continues to expand its technology and international cooperation capabilities, including MoUs with the US on cybercrime.
In summary, I4C is India's central agency to coordinate law enforcement efforts against cybercrime through a comprehensive ecosystem combining complaint management, data analytics, training, forensic support, and legal coordination to safeguard citizens and strengthen cyber security nationally.
