Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) launched the Corporate Mitra Learning Management System (LMS) and commenced the first batch of the Corporate Mitra course, with 2,879 learners registered.
Core Objective
- MSME Support: To provide affordable, localized professional support to India's MSME ecosystem in navigating accounting, GST, taxation, and secretarial requirements.
- First-Level Guidance: Corporate Mitras act as a bridge; they handle routine compliance tasks so small business owners can focus on core growth. They do not replace Chartered Accountants (CAs) or Company Secretaries (CSs) but work as intermediate paraprofessionals.
Course Structure & Timeline
- 12-Month Duration: The entire program spans one full year divided evenly into two phases.
- Phase 1 (Academic Learning): The first 6 months consist of roughly 150 hours of online, structured digital learning via recorded video lectures and expert forums.
- Phase 2 (On-the-Job Training): The remaining 6 months involve paid, practical on-the-job training (internships) inside recognized professional firms (ICAI, ICSI, or ICoAI members).

- Location & Elevation: Discovered in the high-elevation (1,200–1,500m) shola grasslands of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve in the Southern Western Ghats.

British scientists recently used reverse vaccinology to take a major step towards a universal vaccine against pneumonia and meningitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Concept & Origin
- Definition: An approach that shifts the vaccine pipeline from conventional laboratory biochemistry to in silico (computational) analysis of a pathogen's complete genome.
- Origin: The term was coined in 2000 by scientist Rino Rappuoli.
- First Success: It was successfully applied to develop a vaccine against Serogroup B Neisseria meningitidis (MenB), yielding the licensed vaccine Bexsero.
How the Mechanism Works?
- Genome Sequencing: The entire genetic blueprint (DNA/RNA) of the target pathogen is decoded.
- Bioinformatics Filtering: Computer software scans the genomic sequence to predict which genes encode proteins that sit on the virus or bacteria's surface.
- Epitope Prediction: Computational models analyze these surface proteins to identify specific segments (epitopes) that are most likely to trigger a strong human immune response.
- Targeted Synthesis: Only the genes for those selected, safe proteins are synthesized and tested in animal models to confirm they elicit protective antibodies.
Advantages Over Traditional Vaccinology
- Speed: Traditional vaccine development requires months or years of culturing live pathogens; reverse vaccinology can pinpoint targets within days of genome sequencing.
- Safety: Because the live, disease-causing pathogen is never handled or grown in massive quantities, the manufacturing process is inherently safer for scientists.
- Targets Unculturable Pathogens: Many dangerous bacteria and viruses cannot survive or replicate in laboratory media. Reverse vaccinology completely solves this limitation because it only needs genetic data.
- Broader Protection: Computational tools can find hidden, highly-conserved proteins shared across different mutant variants of a virus, laying the groundwork for "universal" vaccines.
Limitations & Challenges

Amoebic meningoencephalitis
Why in News?
Amoebic meningoencephalitis has been prominent in the news due to a significant surge in cases and fatalities in Kerala, India, where over 104 infections and 23 deaths have been confirmed.
About
- The Organism: It is a rare, severe central nervous system infection primarily caused by Naegleria fowleri, a free-living, single-celled microscopic amoeba popularly dubbed the "brain-eating amoeba".
- Two Main Types: The illness manifests as Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM, caused by Naegleria fowleri) or Granulomatous Amoebic Encephalitis (GAE, caused by Acanthamoeba or Balamuthia).
- High Fatality: The disease is exceptionally lethal, carrying a global mortality rate exceeding 95% to 97%.
How It Spreads? (Transmission)
- Habitat: The amoeba thrives worldwide in warm freshwater bodies like lakes, ponds, rivers, unchlorinated swimming pools, and even damp soil. It cannot survive in saltwater.
- Point of Entry: Infection occurs strictly when contaminated water enters the body through the nose.
- Path to the Brain: From the nasal cavity, the amoeba penetrates the porous cribriform plate and travels along the olfactory nerve directly into the brain, where it destroys tissue and triggers severe swelling.
- What Does Not Spread It: The disease cannot be contracted by drinking contaminated water, nor is it communicable from person to person.
- Climate Change: Rising global temperatures and irregular rainfall create ideal conditions—warmer, stagnant freshwater environments—for the amoeba to multiply.
- Enhanced Surveillance: Better awareness and revised medical protocols mean doctors are actively testing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for amoebas, uncovering cases that previously would have been misdiagnosed as viral or bacterial meningitis.
Symptoms and Progression
- Early Signs: Symptoms usually appear 1 to 9 days after exposure. Early signs mimic bacterial meningitis and include severe headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
- Advanced Stage: As the infection rapidly destroys brain tissue, patients develop a stiff neck, confusion, lack of attention, seizures, hallucinations, and coma.
- Rapid Fatality: The disease progresses aggressively, and most patients succumb to the infection within 5 to 18 days after symptoms begin.
Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention
- Diagnosis: Confirmed through a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) followed by a PCR test or microscopic examination of the cerebrospinal fluid.
- Treatment Hurdle: Treatment is difficult because few medicines can effectively cross the blood-brain barrier.
- Current Therapy: Doctors use an aggressive drug cocktail including Amphotericin B, Miltefosine, Azithromycin, and Fluconazole. Survival relies heavily on administering these drugs within the first 24 to 48 hours of exposure.
- Nose Protection: Avoid diving, jumping, or swimming in warm, stagnant freshwater bodies. If swimming, use nose clips or keep your head entirely above water.
- Safe Nasal Rinsing: Never use untreated tap water for ritual nasal cleansing or sinus rinses (like neti pots). Use only distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water.
- Water Maintenance: Ensure public and private swimming pools are continuously and scientifically chlorinated and maintained.
