Why in News?
On 20 August 2026, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) announced support for M/s One2X Tech Pvt. Ltd., Delhi, for the commercialisation of an Indigenous Agentic AI Technology.
 

What is Agentic AI?
Unlike traditional generative AI that only responds to individual text prompts, Agentic AI acts as an autonomous agent:
  • Goal-Oriented: You give it a final target (e.g., "Settle this insurance claim according to policy guidelines"), and it maps out the steps itself.
  • Tool-Using: It can autonomously connect to external APIs, browse databases, write software code, and operate internal enterprise software (ERMs/CRMs).
  • Self-Correcting: If an agent encounters an error or a logic trap midway through a task, it analyzes its own failure and tries a different route without asking a human for help.
Key Attributes of "Indigenous" Indian AI Models
Indian startups and institutions like Sarvam AI, Gnani.ai, BharatGen, and Avataar AI are building custom models engineered specifically for regional complexities:
  • Hyper-Multilingual (Indic Core): Models are trained natively on Indian languages rather than translated from English, effortlessly processing mixed-language text (like Hinglish) and regional accents.
  • Document Understanding (OCR): Homegrown models like Sarvam's Vision OCR hit up to 93.2% accuracy reading complex, handwritten, and table-heavy Indian government land and legacy records.

Recently the success of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs), which have transformed over 12.48 lakh tribal gatherers into local entrepreneurs. As of July 31, 2026, 4,172 VDVKs are sanctioned (2,911 operational), generating β‚Ή168 crore in sales.

Scientists from Pune’s Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) discovered these two unique species at Rajapuri Creek in the Raigad district along Maharashtra's Konkan coast.
 

General Taxonomy & Characteristics
  • Classification: They belong to the genus Psammophaga, which falls under a broader group of single-celled marine organisms called foraminifera.
  • Meaning of Name: The genus name Psammophaga originates from Greek words that translate to "sand eater".
  • Body Structure: Unlike common foraminifera that possess hard, multi-chambered shells, these specific species are monothalamids (having only a single chamber) enclosed by a soft outer wall made of fine, glued clay particles.
  • Locomotion and Feeding: They extend thin, temporary, hair-like structures called granuloreticulopodia from their bodily opening to interact with seafloor sediments and capture particles.
Unique Diet & Selective Feeding
  • Mineral Preference: Elemental analyses reveal that both species preferentially target and ingest heavy, opaque, titaniferous minerals from their environment.

Glyphosate is in news because India is moving to restrict (not fully ban) its use after the paraquat ban, following health and environmental concerns, and because of fresh reports of its misuse in Himachal forests for off‑season pea cultivation.
 

About
  • Chemical Profile: It is a broad-spectrum, systemic herbicide and crop desiccant first brought to the market by Monsanto in 1974 under the trade name Roundup.
  • Non-Selective Nature: It is a non-selective weedkiller, meaning it indiscriminately kills almost all green vegetation and plants it comes into contact with, rather than targeting specific weeds.
Mechanism of Action
  • Enzyme Blocking: It blocks the shikimic acid pathway in plants by inhibiting a specific enzyme called EPSP synthase.
  • Protein Deprivation: By stopping this enzyme, the plant can no longer synthesize essential aromatic amino acids (like phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan) needed for growth, causing it to die within 1 to 3 weeks.
