Nagori (Nagauri) Ashwagandha is in the news because the variety grown in Nagaur (Rajasthan) has been granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, has received national and international promotion (including being presented as a traditional Indian gift at the G7 summit), and state support/subsidy measures are being announced to boost farmer incomes and exports.

- Regional Roots: It is a unique variety of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha/Indian Ginseng) primarily cultivated in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan, as well as the adjoining Churu and Bikaner districts.
- Optimal Terroir: The harsh arid to semi-arid agro-climatic conditions and sandy soils of western Rajasthan provide the perfect environment for its development.
- State Landscape: With this addition, it has officially become Rajasthan's 22nd GI-tagged product and its second agricultural product to receive the tag (following Sojat Mehendi).
