Why in News?
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), through MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), launched GENESIS Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) Cohort 3, also called GENESIS EIR 3.0.
Objective & Framework
- Umbrella Scheme: It is a core component of India's overarching GENESIS (Gen-Next Support for Innovative Startups) program.
- Overall Budget: The larger GENESIS parent scheme operates with a total financial outlay of ₹490 crore.
- The Mission: It bridges the critical funding gap required to convert early-stage technical concepts into pilot-ready, market-viable products.
Key Benefits & Financial Support
- Direct Grant: Selected fellows receive financial assistance of up to ₹10 lakh via partner incubators.
- Incubation Access: Complete infrastructure support from participating elite tech hubs across the country.
- Dedicated Mentorship: One-on-one expert guidance, product validation, Minimum Viable Product (MVP) design, and market commercialisation routes.

Strict Eligibility Criteria
- Target Demographics: Open strictly to Indian citizens who are students, individual innovators, researchers, or early-stage startup founders.
- Geographical Focus: If a startup is already incorporated, it must be headquartered in a Tier-II or Tier-III city.
- Company Age: Incorporated entities must be less than two years old at the time of application.
- Technology Readiness Level (TRL): Inventions must sit firmly between TRL 1–4 (covering early ideation up to prototype/validation stages).
- No Double Dipping: The applicant must not have received prior financial assistance exceeding ₹10 lakh from any other Central or State government initiative for the same idea.
