Why in News?
The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has launched a six-month offline course titled “Garbhini Mitra” for the 2026–27 academic session.
Objectives
- Maternal Support: Train dedicated personnel to provide structured lifestyle guidance, emotional support, and health education to pregnant and postnatal women.
- Bridge Care Gaps: Create community workers who act as a bridge between households and medical hospitals.
- Reduce Mortality: Indirectly assist in lowering maternal and infant mortality rates by identifying health complications early.
Details of the Course
- Duration: It is a six-month offline training programme.
- Schedule: Classes run from Monday to Friday, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, to accommodate working professionals and caregivers.
- Batch Size: Limited strictly to 20 students per batch to ensure quality mentorship.
- Location: Conducted entirely at the AIIA campus in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi.
Key Information
- Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Education: Candidates must have passed the Senior Secondary (10+2) examination from a recognized board, with provisional entry allowed for those awaiting results.
- Key Areas: Focused on Ayurvedic principles of Garbhini Paricharya (antenatal care), Sutika Paricharya (postnatal care), and practical skills like pregnancy-safe yoga and newborn massage.
- Safety Protocols: Includes training in basic life support, infection control, and biomedical waste management.
- Complementary Support: Designed to complement, not replace, modern clinical antenatal care, with a focus on monitoring and facilitating referrals to medical professionals for critical conditions.
- Graduates can find roles in Ayush centres, NGOs, and community wellness setups, acting as Garbhini Mitra Assistants, prenatal/postnatal care assistants, and maternal health support workers.
