Why in News?
The Digital Life Certificate (DLC), also known as Jeevan Pramaan, is in the news as of April 1–2, 2026, because the Government of India informed the Lok Sabha that a record 1.9 crore digital life certificates were generated by pensioners during the financial year 2025–26.
Process & Authentication
- Aadhaar-Based: Uses the Aadhaar platform for online biometric authentication (Fingerprint, Iris, or Face).
- Face Authentication: A contactless method where the pensioner uses the Aadhaar Face RD App on an Android or iOS smartphone for a live facial scan.
- Pramaan ID: A unique ID is generated for each successful submission, which can be used to download the certificate from the Jeevan Pramaan Portal.
Submission Windows
- General Pensioners (Aged 60–80): Usually required to submit between November 1 and November 30 each year.
- Super Senior Pensioners (Aged 80+): Granted an early window starting from October 1.
Accessibility & Convenience
- Doorstep Service: Provided by the India Post Payments Bank through a network of nearly 1.8 lakh postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks for a nominal fee (approx. βΉ70).
- Service Points: Pensioners can also visit Bank Branches, Common Service Centres (CSCs), or designated government offices.
Digital Integration
- The system is integrated with Bhavishya, Digi locker, and the Central Pension Accounting Office to ensure end-to-end digitization of pension processing.
- Uninterrupted Pension: Successful generation ensures the continued, break-free disbursal of pension funds.
