Bloomberg New Economy Forum

Why in News?
The Bloomberg New Economy Forum (BNEF) is in the news because its 8th edition is being held in New Delhi from 13–15 October 2026 — the first time the forum is hosted in India. It has brought together over 500 global political, business, technology, and finance leaders to discuss AI, trade, energy, geopolitics, and supply chains.

About
  • It is an annual, invitation-only global conference organised by Bloomberg, founded by Michael R. Bloomberg.
  • Its purpose is to bring leaders from government, business, finance, technology, and civil society together to find common ground on global economic challenges.
  • It is not a government treaty-making body; it is a high-level platform for dialogue, partnerships, and policy-oriented discussion.
  • The 2026 edition is the 8th Bloomberg New Economy Forum.

  • Supply Chain & Currency Stability: Leaders discussed India’s role as a trusted partner as global supply chains face weaponization, alongside discussions by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the RBI’s ongoing efforts to curb rupee volatility.
  • AI and Job Creation: Conversations highlighted that open AI networks and digital platforms will unleash India's small business economy, generating millions of human-led jobs that are inherently "AI-proof".
