Aranmula Vallamkali

Why in News?
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali on 30 August 2026 on the Pamba River – the first time an Indian Vice President has inaugurated this event in its modern organised form.

  • Location: Takes place on the holy Pampa River near the 1,700-year-old Aranmula Sree Parthasarathy Temple in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala.
  • The Legend: It commemorates an ancient event where local snake boats rushed to protect the Thiruvona Thoni (a vessel carrying feast ingredients to the temple) from an enemy attack.
